“Deaths and Funerals” - Hunter S. Fain, 47, died yesterday afternoon at a local hospital after a long illness. A native of Jessamine County, Mr. Fain was a son of Fountain D. and Nannie Shanklin Fain.

FAIN, MATTIE BELLE
Mattie Belle Fain, two year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Fain, of near Keene, died of influenza and pneumonia Friday (November 2, 1918), and the body was buried in Pleasant Hill graveyard Saturday. The deceased, besides her parents, is survived by four brothers; Herbert, Arthur, Leonard and Joe Lee Fain; and four sisters, Nellie, Mary, Minnie and Elizabeth Fain.

FAIN, MATTIE FLORA
Mattie Flora Fain, 79, of Lexington, died Friday, June 7, in Lexington. Mrs. Fain was the daughter of the late Floyd and Mary Flora and the widow of Edgar Fain, who died in 1972. Survivors include a son, Donald W. Fain; a daughter, Cecie Fay Hugg; three sisters, Geneva Tutor, Dorothyn Buffin and Evelyn Hunphrey. She was preceded in death by a sister, Sue Ann Johnson and a brother Raymond Flora. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery.

FAIN, NATHAN
Nathan Fain, aged 63 years, died at his home 349 South Mill Street, Lexington, Sunday morning, Mar. 8, 1914, of apoplexy. Mr. Fain was a native of Jessamine County and was twice married, his first wife being Miss Sallie Young, of Madison County. Three of their children survive; Norman, Ulmont, and Gordon Fain, of Lexington. Several years ago, Mr. Fain was married to Miss Kettie Richardson, of Rice Station, Estill County. Three sisters, Mrs. John Williams, of Valley View; Mrs. George Turpin, of High Bridge; Mrs. Lucy Mahin, of Canton, Oh. Mr. Fain was engaged in the general merchandise business in Estill County for a number of years, but moved to Lexington about ten years ago and has been in business there until a short time before he became ill. The remains were brought to the Pleasant Hill burying ground and interred in the family burying lot Tuesday.

“Deaths And Funerals” - Radford E. Fain, 78, died today at the home of his son, Richard M. Fain, 455 West Seventh Street. He was a native of Jessamine county and was the son of Richard and Mary Hunter Fain.

“Deaths-Funerals” - The body of Richard Fain, 80, who died Friday night at a local hospital, was removed to Sulphur Well, Jessamine county, where funeral services and burial will be held this afternoon.

FAIN, MRS. SARADA
At her late home in the Little Hickman neighborhood, Mrs. Sarada Fain, widow of the late Larkin Fain, died Tuesday, (May 15, 1894) aged 70 years. The deceased was the mother of Mr. Fayette Brooks, Mrs. Green B. Sageser, Squire Wilson Fain and Dr. Tilford Fain, of Kirksville. Mr. William Fain, of Wilmore, is also a son of the deceased. The funeral services were conducted at the residence by Rev. F. W. Noland yesterday; interment took place in the Fain family burying ground near the old Potts Mill.

FAIN, SQUIRE WILSON
Squire Wilson Fain died suddenly, Thursday, Jan. 6, 1910, at his home near Little Hickman. He was apparently well at breakfast, but later complained of a pain about the region of the heart. He had been subject to acute attacks of indigestion. His son, Will Fain, was in the room and as he went out, his father fell forward into the fireplace and, hearing his daughter scream, Will Fain hastened into the family room, to his father's relief. He was only slightly burned about the face and expired in a few minutes. He was sixty-four years of age, and was born near where he had spent his life. He leaves a wife, who was Miss Mary E. Vanpelt and three sons and two daughters, Wm. Fain, Mrs. Wm. Collier, Indianapolis, Ind., Mrs. Richard Robards, Lexington; Alvin Fain, Hanley, Harry Fain, Plymouth, Ind., all of whom were notified by wire yesterday. For a number of years, deceased was a member of the Jessamine Fiscal Court and he was serving his second term as County Superintendent of Roads. He leaves two brothers, Mitchell Fain, a farmer near Little Hickman and Wm. Fain of Garrard County. Deceased was a leading and influential citizen and Democrat; a man of general information and high character, respected and honored by all our citizens; a member of the Mt. Zion Methodist church. He made a good official, both as Magistrate and Turnpike Superintendent and the news of his sudden taking was received with expressions of regret. The interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Nicholasville, Saturday afternoon.

FARMER, RAYMOND
Nicholasville, June 5 (1955) Funeral services for Raymond Farmer, 34, farmer, who died Saturday, will be conducted at 2 p.m. (CST) Monday at the Don V. Drye Funeral Home at Lebanon. The body is at the funeral home.

FAYNE, RAY DOYLE
Ray Doyle Fayne, a former Nicholasville police chief and Mercer County jailer, died yesterday at his home on Cottage Street. He was 78. Mr. Fayne, who was named Nicholasville police chief in the 1950s, previously had been an officer on the force. He was a police officer in Los Angeles for a time, then returned to his native Kentucky and became a Harrodsburg police officer. He was appointed Mercer County jailer in 1974.

FICHTNER, E. E.
The sad intelligence was received here this week of the death of Mrs. E. E. Fichtner, at Excelsior Springs, Mo., on the 9th inst. (12-18-1896 issue). Mrs. Fichtner was born and reared in Nicholasville, and was a daughter of Mrs. M. D. Clemons and a sister of Mrs. E. E. Horine and Mrs. W. P. Duncan, Mrs. Fichtner's first husband was Monroe Sparks.

FIELDS, E. H.
E. H. Fields, aged 74 years, died here Friday morning, (9-10-1910 issue) at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. F. White, after a protracted illness. The remains were taken to Richmond, Saturday, for burial. He is survived by his wife and daughter, Mrs. J. F. White and son, W. O. Fields. He was a brother-in-law of Brutus J. Clay, minister to Geneva, Switzerland, and formerly resided in Madison county. The funeral services were conducted at the grave by Dr. E. W. McCorkle.

FINSTERWALD, MARY ELIZABETH WHYTE
Mary Elizabeth Whyte Finsterwald, 87, the widow of Charles Herbert Finsterwald of Fairway Drive in Nicholasville, died Jan. 10, 2001 at her home after a brief illness. She was a member of the St. Luke Catholic Church and the daughter of the late James and Elizabeth Whyte. Survivors include two children and their spouses, Phillip Mead Finsterwald and Jo Ann, Charlene “Herbie” Doolin and Doug; grandchildren and their spouses, P. Michael and Laura Finsterwald, Mark Alan and Lili Finsterwald, David Blair Finsterwald, Kim Doolin and her fiancee, David Young, Doug Doolin, Jr., and Hannah Doolin and Priscilla Finsterwald; two special nieces, Bev Stoncel and Mary Jane Dean; and special friends, Pat Riley and Nancy Clark. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Jack, Meade, Charles and Joseph Whyte and two sisters, Regina Whyte and Nancy Clark. Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at St. Luke Catholic Church. Burial followed in Maple Grove Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Jessamine County Hospice.

After many months of gradual weakening from complications of diseases, Mrs. Lily S. Fish passed away at Good Samaritan hospital, Lexington, Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1913. Mrs. Fish was born in Jessamine County, Nov. 22, 1855, and was the daughter of Milton C. and Arabella F. Smith. June 25, 1878, she was married to Dr. W. H. Fish----- (rest of obit unreadable)

Died at his home in Cynthiana, Mr. William Fitzgerald. The deceased will be remembered by many Nicholasville people, formerly being in the bakery business here. (No date of death included. Obit appeared in the 1-10-1902 issue of Journal)

FORD, BEN W., JR.
Ben W. Ford, Jr., 74, Logana Road, Nicholasville, died at the Royal Nursing Home, Friday, June 12 (1987). He was a retired farmer and truck driver and was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Bethany Christian Church and a member of the Teamster Local No. 420, of Gary, Indiana. He was a son of the late Ben W. Ford and Lula Ford. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Joe (Sandra) Demetree, of Winter Park, Florida, and Mrs. Kevin H. (Evelyn) Vyhmanek, of Justice, Illinois; two sisters, Mrs. T. L. (Vivian) Miller, Nicholasville and Mrs. Julius (Cecil) Fister, Versailles; one niece, Mrs. Nancy Figg, Nicholasville; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Ford was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Silvers Ford; one brother, Charles Allen Ford; one sister, Thelma Graves Ford; his mother, Mrs. Earl Ashley and his father Ben W. Ford, Sr. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Guyn, Kurtz, Hager and Cundiff Funeral Home with Rev. David Wotier and Rev. Jim Linn, officiating. Burial was in the Maple Grove Cemetery. Casketbearers were William D. (Bill) Cox, John William Cox, Chris Keen, Roddy F. Williams, Sr., Roddy F. Williams, II, and Robert G. Figg. Visitation was held at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon and night and from 10:00 a.m. on Monday until time for the services.

Mrs. Ida Ford, wife of Capt. J. C. Ford, of the Lexington Detective Department, died at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Friday night, Nov. 10, 1911, of ??? poison. Besides her husband, she is survived by four children, Harold B. Ford, of Chattanooga, Tenn; Ernest A. Ford, of Indianapoilis, Ind. and Misses Margaret and Lillian Ford, of Lexington. Mrs. Ford was stricken suddenly three days before her death and did not recover consciousness. She was a Miss Davis of Woodford County. (rest of obit unreadable)

FORD, MRS. VIVIAN ENGLISH
Mrs. Vivian English Ford, formerly of Chicago, Illinois, died Saturday, October 28, (1978), at the Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington. She was a native of Jessamine County and a daughter of the late C. C. and Claudia Davis English and was a member of the Methodist Church. She was retired from the General Electric plant in Chicago. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Saundra Branshaw, of Fort Worth, Texas; three sisters, Mrs. Clarence (Myrtle) Robinson, Nicholasville; Mrs. Oakley (Elva June) Lee and Mrs. Ruth Jones, both of Lake Charles, La., and a brother, Buell English, of Lancaster; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at the Betts and West Funeral Home by Rev. Howard Reynolds. Burial was in the Maple Grove Cemetery. Bearers were Worley Burton, Kenneth Johns, Billy Mike Jacobs, Mike Shultz, Bobby English and Victor Robinson.

FREDERICK, NELSON LEROY
Nelson Leroy Frederick, 81 of Beechmont Dr. in Nicholasville, died Dec 18, 2000 at the UKMC in Lexington. The son of the late Leroy and Nellie Kintner Frederick. He is survived by 2 sisters, Betty Calvin and Hilda Copacia; a nephew, Gary Wilms; 2 nieces, Linda Wilters and Gwen Frost; and special friends Goldie Pulliam, John Whitt, and Barbara Ross. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Betts and West with the Rev. Ronald Riley officiating. Burial followed at Maple Grove Cemetery.

FREELS, CLAUDE B.
Claude B. Freels, 75 of High Bridge, died Dec 11, 2000 at Central Baptist Hospital after an extended illness Mr. Freels was the owner and operator of the F&M Gulf/BP Station in Wilmore for 45 years. He was the former director of the Wilmore Lions Club and a member for 23 years, he was a member of the Shanty Hill Sportsman Club. A native of Scott Co., he was the son of the late Elmer and Dollie Miller Freels. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty Jean Freels; a daughter, Brenda Sewell of High Bridge; a sister Edna Lucas of Georgetown; a brother Richard of Wilmore; grandchild, Shawn Claude Sewell of Lexington and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Helen Brock and Ella Mae Daughtery. Funeral services were held Dec 13 at Hager and Cundiff with the Rev. Terry Farris and the Rev. David Hewlett officiating. Burial followed at the Wilmore Cemetery. Bearers were Elmer Lee Freels, Michael Freels, Bradley Lucas. Honorary Bearers were Steve Basham, Gene West, Jean Brandenburg, Johnnie Webb, Clay Corman, Clay Tanksersly, Dempsey Watts, Bobby Conn, John Conn, and the Wilmore Lions Club. Contributions may be made to the Lions Club Eye Bank.
